Rosana Ricalde
*1971, Niteroi, Brazil
Lives and works in Rio das Ostras, Brazil
Rosana Ricalde uses the word as an image. The possibilities generated by this combination bring viewers infinite interpretations of 'what you see is not – actually – what everybody gets.' In the midst of these tensions, elements of instability and fragile perception are created, showing what you can find in Ricalde’s world.
Since 2007, the artist has developed a series of real city maps designed with lines from Italo Calvino's book Invisible Cities. Rosana takes the reading of an allegoric metropolis and creates a relation between the text itself and the author's crystallization of real urban spaces. For Art Basel Miami Beach 2011, Ricalde will present an installation made with the present world map.
